Scranton Times (Times-Shamrock Corp) Scranton, PA

Behind the success of today's Times-Shamrock is a century of family tradition -- a tradition of progress born of a
man who combined his love of journalism with his exceptional foresight to build the solid foundation of today's
media company. This company, with fifteen publications and ten radio stations, reaches more than one million
people every week.

In 1895, E. J. Lynett, who blackened his hands as a breaker boy in the coal mines of Northeastern Pennsylvania,
put aside early ambitions of law and politics to purchase a 3,200-circulation, two-cent afternoon publication.
Through his efforts, The Scranton Times would one day become Pennsylvania's third largest daily journal, and he
would be one of the first inductees in the Pennsylvania Newspaper Hall of Fame.
Lightspeed was hired for the design, implementation and complete management of their nationwide WAN. The
remote sites were connected with a fully redundant Frame Relay network. The project included redesigning of the
current Internet infrastructure using a PIX Firewall, Cisco routers and Sprint Internet access.
Lightspeed also upgraded the entire infrastructure and implemented a total Cisco solution at the main facility and
several of the remote locations. The project employed the Catalyst line of switches with Gigabit Ethernet and
Layer 3 capabilities.
